Skew The Ordinary

Why Magic?

Everyday life, the daily grind, the commute, the meetings, the endless tasks, the personal issues, the family, issues, the overtime , the deadlines. Its enough to make most people fairly unhappy. These external things suck the energy from a person eventually leading them to sadness or just a feeling of general unhappiness. Everything becomes routine, mundane and most of all ordinary.

I certainly do not take pleasure in the ordinary, no . The unknown intrigues me, the unique impresses me and the illogical shocks me. To find an interest that has these following elements is a God-Sent. Magic is beyond simple magic tricks, magic taps into something very real in everyone of us. As human beings we are drawn into stories and since the beginning of man we used to gather around the fire to share ideas and stories. Story telling and magic go and in hand, as stories communicate. Many of us know how to talk , few of us know how to communicate.

Magic also builds self confidence and forces someone to perform, after all we are all actors playing on life's big screen aren't we. A performance is seen everyday from the way a salesman pitches his items to you, from the advertisement we see on the tv or even just people who are in our lives acting and performing their part for you.  Knowing how to perform is one of the most critical aspects of magic , the ability to perform at a moments notice in front of people surely build character and confidence.

Magic is also a great way of opening up to a group of strangers, if you show them a few well routined and well told magical effects, their world that world of mundane existence, that life of ordinary suddenly becomes very extraordinary.  They will not only look up to you and ask that famous almost synonymous question "how did you do that" it adds to the mystery the allure and the charm of your own personal being. It changes how you now view the world and yourself and most importantly it makes you extraordinary. I have a long way to go when it comes to performing and telling a good tale, but i am getting there.

In closing i would like to say, that i feel that i have given some examples on why i find magic so appealing. I enjoy making people smile and if i can do that , i feel i have contributed something to the betterment of the human race. Magic is a wonderful thing, it irritates me when other people refer to them as "magic tricks", these are not tricks we are not tricking people into believing what we do is real . We are merely illustrating that sometimes the logical, the real, the safe and the unbelievable can happen. The choice of believing something is real is theirs alone. If they want to be belive in deception, the old latin saying, "Mundus vult decipi, ergo decipiatur " "The world wants to be deceived, so let it be deceived." will ring true. More on this on my next blog.
