The Stealth Pen (AKA Pen through Dollar)



The Stealth pen, what a cool idea. i believe this has been around for a good number of years. I was a skeptic at first, i thought hey hey hey! Nobody is going to believe this. Its not realistic its totally strange and since its so widely available i am sure a good number of people already know how to do it. So i was not particularly interested in this. Then when penguin magic offered a $99 dollar deal for 5 tricks , i was tempted. That often happens to me, i am put off by something and then i become interested. Right so lets break this down for those of you who are considering purchasing the stealth pen.

Effect:
Take any borrowed note or bill, show it completely clean of any funny business. Then in a quick and almost dramatic way puncture it. Then wait for the gasps. Show then the pen has penetrated the bill. Rotate the tip so the spectator is convinced that its the real deal. Then as the spectator stares at the tip of the pen, pull it right out in one fluid motion. The spectator checks the bill, checks the pen and verifies that they have just witnessed some really cool magic. (oz pearlman does this bit where the pen goes through the body of the pen and the spectators bill is embedded inside---i can't do that as with polymer notes its pretty darn impossible)

Method:

The method is simple and straight forward, a great beginner effect or something to have around you at all times. There is no real "method" to this aside from the patter and some misdirection, which is why its an excellent trick for beginners.

Presentation:

How you present this effect, is whats going to matter. You need to know how to do it well and have a reason for doing what you do if you don't then its pretty pointless. You want your presentation to be fair, just and not fancy. My advice is keep it simple and make your moves as legitamate moves.

Design:

The design of this item, its superb, i also believe you can perform Gregory Wilson "pointless" with this effect, i have yet to study that. I know that its possible though. I love this thing, you can use it everyday, play around with it and freak people out.

My summary:

Now my summary, ok, its a great effect and trust me it gets some pretty interesting reactions. Its great fun to carry around with you, doesn't take up much pocket space and your ready to go whenever and wherever. Do remember you can instantly reset this if you want to however i don't recommend doing this twice with the same audience, stick to that fundamental of magic. You could perform Gregory Wilson effect immediately after this, or use your imagination and make the pen do other things! Its impromptu and great for walk around and spontaneous situations. Know when to use it and where to use it, it will amaze!
