I am writing this on the way to work on a saturday! By golly do we spend alot of time on work and too few hours on our passion! Well last friday i was fiddling around with one of magics most utilized utility gimmicks and i thought wow i think i can do some pretty nifty things with this.
I came up with this effect after watching cinch by shaun robison, a piece of paper is transformed into real money right before the spectators eyes. i thought wow, that could definitely work. However his method calls for perhaps some preperation, so does mine however as for me every thing can be examined the paper and the money. So i have a thing for money plants as they are so easy to keep and i came up with this effect.
Now i understand through feedback from my friends and family members that it was not close up enough, its one of those videos where i simply shot it a few times and i was done. i will definetly want to shoot a close up video once i get the method in place correctly. I am working on it !!
In the meantime, my effect is simple, imagine your out in the park and a leaf catches your attention, i think its great for walk around magic. Grab a leaf, any leaf would do and then transform this leaf into a bill of some type. It works with any currency and can be repeated with careful preparation. The spongeball toolbox magic review (Check out the Video below!)
When i first encountered spongeballs, it was actually introduced to me by my uncle. I was mesmerized by the effect and the routine. See the thing about magic, is we love when things are visual. We human beings used to use our eyesight to track and follow prey when mankind was still developing. What we see of course is what we believe, and if what we see is unbelievable then the mind takes over and as the mind tries to figure out what just happened through the use of logic , at times it succeeds other times well....it does not. That's when something really becomes magical.
Spongeballs, use this faculty and hijack the sight and the mind very quickly, one reason i do not prefer card magic is that it just lacks visual views, yes there are effects that are visual but at the same time its not like "pow" in your face sorta thing. I guess its just not my preference. So if your just getting into magic do take time to learn the spongeballs, it really does impress and of course it amazes. Never discount the power of spongeballs.
Now the next step, what resources are you going to use when learning about spongeballs. I would say the spongeball toolbox would be an excellent starting point:

This dvd is much better than Jay Noblezada's Sponges. I actually got Jay's DVD first but when i compare with Dacri's dvd. Its in a different league on its own. It teaches you key fundamentals and how to actually do the two most important things, which is to conceal and reproduce. Once you know how to do this effectively the routines become easy. I practiced the conceal and reproduction repeatedly for hours at a time to get it to where i want it to be. Trust me its well worth the practice.
What you learn in this DVD is a couple of routines, which is probably the only drawback. I would have wanted to see more routines but i can understand why its a couple as opposed to more. However the routines here will definitely give you the ability to perform some of the most classic magic effects. Some of these are:
